EkoTag is an Art In Public spaces initiative by Inscribe Art. Our Mission is to Integrate culture and arts in urban public spaces to shape the images and Identity of cities, while empowering the people within these communities. Public art is a growing phenomenon with Governments across the Globe recognizing the importance of art in place making. There appear to be brands and grant providers ready to fund governments who want to help renew public spaces and contribute to the cultural life of a community through a variety of art forms
We believe that street art, when properly executed within cities, highlights the value of outdoor spaces. It brings communities together with a sense of ownership and shared identity. Through murals, collages, mosaics, stencil painting, monument artworks, these forms of contemporary art open up avenues for integration between neighborhoods, and cities. Globally, street art has been found to boost attractiveness, image, and tourism across cities. It is a way of democratizing culture!
OZUMBA MBADIWE
Our first project is a 120ft monument commissioned by the Lagos State Government. It is located on a High traffic, High visibility road (Ozumba Mbadiwe) in Victoria Island, Lagos. This monument was originally commissioned in 2017, serving as a platform to promote Art in Public spaces, while simultaneously building community. In 2023, our Inscribe team re-designed the Eko Tag monument to tell a story of Lagos from the eyes of the artist.
This photo centered art shows how the hope of Eko lies in the hands of young people who carry on their heads the institutions that have been built and behind their faces are lilies which are symbolic of productivity and rebirth. It is a story of culture, of inclusion, and of hope – a story that shows what it means to be Lagosian. The Installation carries a QR code that serves as a gateway to digital freebies and materials that further drive the story.

THE ARTIST
EkoTag is a project by Inscribe Art, a Creative Collective leveraging Urban Art as a catalyst for Innovation, Education, Transformation, and Community. The team is led by award winning Urban Visual Artist, Osa Seven who has worked with global brands such as Red Bull, Microsoft, Apple Music, Adidas, Google, Netflix, amongst others. He is also the first African artist to design a bottle for Hennessy’s Very Special Cognac.
